Bill Skarsgard set to return as Pennywise the Clown in upcoming prequel series for Max

"Red balloons all around!"

Bill Skarsgård is officially returning as Pennywise the Clown for Max’s upcoming It prequel series.

The Swedish actor will reprise his iconic role as the demonic clown in the series It: Welcome to Derry, following the release of It and It Chapter Two, both based on Stephen King’s famous horror novel.

As Deadline reported, two-time It director Andy Muschietti and his sister Bárbara are leading the new series, which will delve into Pennywise’s origin story set in the 1960s.

The cast also includes Taylour Paige (White Boy Rick), Jovan Adepo (Overlord), Chris Chalk (Perry Mason), and James Remar (Oppenheimer).

Skarsgård will also serve as an executive producer on the prequel series.

Following the announcement of Welcome to Derry, Stephen King shared his excitement.

He said in a statement, “I’m thrilled that the story of Derry, Maine’s most haunted city, is continuing,”

“I’m glad Andy Muschietti will be overseeing the frightening festivities, along with his talented sister, Barbara. Red balloons all around!”

The series will consist of nine episodes, with Muschietti directing several of them.

The Muschietti siblings said in a statement, “As teenagers, we took turns reading chapters of Stephen King’s It until the thick paperback fell to pieces.”

“It is an epic story that contains multitudes, far beyond what we could explore in our It movies.”

“We can’t wait to share the depths of Steve’s novel, in all its heart, humour, humanity and horror.”
