Dave Bautista Officially Cast as Live-Action Kratos in God of War Series

Ryan Hurst will be replaced as Kratos and all scenes will be reshot.

It’s official, Dave Bautista will be joining the live-action God of War series as Kratos himself, replacing former star Ryan Hurst.

This comes after Hurst had to exit the project following a nasty bicep injury he received while in production of the show’s first season.

Hurst had filmed four episodes prior to his exit.

Any scenes featuring Hurst as Kratos will now be reshot with Bautista, suggesting that the goal will be to preserve as much footage as possible from what has been filmed so far.

Prime Video has already ordered two seasons of the series, so Bautista will be booked and busy for sometime in the world of God of War.

Following the news of Hurst’s exit, it was shared that if the role was not recast, production would likely be delayed deep into 2027.

This forced the streamer to part ways with the Sons of Anarchy and Walking Dead actor, leaving them searching for a new lead.

It’s no secret that Bautista has been heavily fan cast as Kratos for years, and it’s fair to assume that may have played a part in Amazon’s decision making.

Which God of War Games Are Being Adapted?

Before you think Bautista is too old to play the iconic video game character in live-action, it should be noted that the series will be picking up from the 2018 God of War game.

As many fans of the game series know, this is the fourth instalment and features a much older Kratos as compared to the original trilogy.

God of War: Ragnarök, the 2022 follow-up to the 2018 soft reboot, will also be set in motion for adaptation in the upcoming series.

It’s currently unclear if Amazon plans to adapt a third game, if one will ever happen (which it likely will, we just don’t know when.)
