DC Studios movie about Dick Grayson and Jason Todd’s early days as ‘Dynamic Duo’ in the works

The 'Dynamic Duo' are set to get their own animated movie.

A new animated movie about the origins of the Robins is officially in the works at DC Studios.

According to Deadline, the film, titled Dynamic Duo will serve as an origin story for the two Robins, specifically focusing on the characters Dick Grayson and Jason Todd.

The project will be produced in collaboration with Warner Bros. Pictures Animation and Matt Reeves’ 6th & Idaho production company.

Dynamic Duo marks the first new project from DC Studios since James Gunn and Peter Safran unveiled their slate of film and TV projects in early 2023.

Unlike other Batman-centric stories, Dynamic Duo will focus on the relationship between Grayson and Todd, both of whom have famously taken up the Robin mantle as Batman’s sidekicks in DC comics.

The film, written by Matthew Aldrich, known for his work on Coco and Lightyear, will delve into the evolving friendship between the two young heroes as their paths begin to diverge.

In the DC comics, after serving as Batman’s sidekick, Dick Grayson eventually becomes the superhero Nightwing, while Jason Todd, after a dark turn, transforms into the vigilante Red Hood.

Contrary to early rumours, the film will not depict Grayson and Todd as thieves at the beginning of the story.

Dynamic Duo will be separate from Matt Reeves’ ongoing “Batverse”, which includes The Batman and The Penguin series, providing a standalone story about the iconic Robins.

New Orleans-based Swaybox Studios has been chosen to handle the animation for Dynamic Duo, with co-founder and principal Arthur Mintz set to direct.

The studio will use its own Momo technology, which combines CGI with puppetry, live-action performances, and other visual elements.

Dynamic Duo does not have a release date yet.
