Contenders for the role of DC Universe’s John Stewart in Green Lantern series revealed

Lanterns is an upcoming superhero HBO series based on DC Comics’ Green Lantern.

It will follow a lantern legend and veteran, Hal Jordan, as he accompanies new recruit John Stewart in investigating a murder.

Although there was a rumour that Josh Brolin (Avengers: Endgame, The Goonies) would portray the intergalactic hero, the news was crushed when Kyle Chandler officially landed the part.

Chandler is known for his roles in Friday Night Lights, Bloodline and Manchester by the Sea.

Now that the protagonist Hal Jordan has been cast, it seems as though DC are looking for their newest recruit for John Stewart.

John Stewart, another Green Lantern, was the first African-American superhero to appear in DC Comics in 1972, selected to be backup for Hal Jordan’s Lantern.

Two actors are seeming in the running for the role, including Netflix’s Rebel Ridge star Aaron Pierre and The Piano Lesson‘s Stephan James.

Sources state that a decision could be made by the end of the week for the detective-to-be.

The series is set to have a True Detective, with a rugged and gritty vibe following a reluctant Hal Jordan and an eager younger John Stewart.

Lanterns will be one of the newest releases for James Gunn’s revamped DC Universe.

Although no release date has been confirmed, speculation suggests sometime in 2026.
