As anticipation builds for James Gunn’s upcoming Superman film, set to soar into theaters on July 11, 2025, actor Frank Grillo has shared his enthusiastic reaction to an early glimpse of the movie’s trailer.
Grillo, who portrays Rick Flag Sr. in the film, recently revealed that the preview left him with “goosebumps,” highlighting the project’s potential to captivate audiences.
In an interview with Collider, Grillo expressed his excitement about working under Gunn’s direction and the impact of the trailer:
“To step on set and to know Gunn was at the helm, even in the capacity that I was working, was a gift.”

“I’ll tell you something – I hope I don’t get in trouble for this – I got a sneak peek at a little bit of the trailer, and I’m not joking, and I’m not blowing this out of proportion,” he teased.
“My skin was hot and I had goosebumps,” he added.
“That’s how great it is.”
Grillo’s role as Rick Flag Sr. marks a significant addition to the DC Universe.
He is set to debut the character in the animated series Creature Commandos, premiering on Max on December 5, 2024, before reprising the role in live-action for Superman and the second season of Peacemaker.
Responding to an inquiry on Threads, Gunn confirmed, “It’s on my hard drive,” indicating that the trailer for Superman is finalized and awaiting release.

James Gunn has emphasized the importance of consistent character representation across different formats. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, he discussed Grillo’s involvement:
“He is a really cool character that Frank has been molding.”
“The character’s also in Superman, and he’s an incredibly important part in Peacemaker.”
“He is one of the primary characters in Peacemaker season 2. So we get to see this character from different angles, and he is not simple.”
“This isn’t just a good guy, not at all.”
“We see all different sides of his character.”
“He is morally a complex human being.”
The cast includes David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor.
