Fans divided over ‘weird CGI’ face in new Superman TV spot shared by James Gunn

“It looks AWFUL."

DC Studios’ boss James Gunn has released a new teaser for the upcoming Superman film, giving fans another glimpse of David Corenswet as the iconic hero.

The short clip, first shared by Gunn on Instagram, follows December’s official teaser trailer, which sparked a lot of excitement among DCU fans and became the most viewed trailer in the “history of both DC & Warner Bros.”

The latest teaser kicks off with Superman injured in the snow, calling for help from his trusty dog, Krypto.

It then shifts to action-packed scenes of Superman saving Metropolis residents while fighting a fire-breathing monster.

Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor is briefly shown stepping off a plane, and the teaser wraps up with Superman soaring through jagged ice—a moment that marks the first glimpse of his flight in the new film.

Sharing the teaser on Instagram, Gunn captioned it, “It begins, July 11.”

However, some fans pointed out issues with Superman’s flight scene, especially noting that his face looked ‘weird’ as he flew through the jagged ice.

One user commented, “It looks awesome… the transition shot of him flying 🔥🔥 but I have to admit his eyes looked weird in that shot… I hope it gets fixed.”

Another wrote, “OK… last shot was something bad… but yeah, good.”

Some were more critical, with one saying, “Do better next time.”

Another one remarked, “Oh nah! Nah nah nah. I hope I’m wrong, but this isn’t promising for me. That flying scene. Eeesh. Looked weird. Didn’t look fast, controlled, or powerful like Superman should.”

A different user chimed in, “It looks AWFUL because you can see he’s NOT in the scene. He comes out of the twist and his facial expression doesnt move. Totally static like a doll.”

“The elements are CGI-ing all over his face thats stone cold no emotion locked. Its a totally CGI face that isnt acting.”

According to the official synopsis of the film, Superman tells the story of Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas.

He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.

James Gunn’s Superman features David Corenswet as Superman and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane. Nicholas Hoult takes on the role of Lex Luthor, with Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, and Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern Guy Gardner.
