George Miller teases next Mad Max movie while offering update on when fans can expect to see it

"We have got another script."

George Miller is not done with the Mad Max universe just yet.

The legendary director recently revealed that he has another Mad Max sequel in mind, but it won’t be his next project.

Speaking with Vulture, Miller shared that he has a completed script for a potential sequel but is currently focused on two other films.

He said, “We have got another script.”

“But having been doing this long enough where I’m habituated to storytelling, I find myself with way too many stories – not only in my head, but in the form of screenplays or at least very detailed notes that are within reach of screenplays.”

Miller described himself as a “professional daydreamer” and explained that while another Mad Max film is possible, it depends on timing.

He went on, “I’m a professional daydreamer, really. This was seen as my big deficit as a kid: ‘George would do better at school if he didn’t daydream so much’ was on my report card.”

Miller added, “So, there are lots of stories.”

“Indeed, one of them is a Mad Max.”

“It is not something I would do next, because there are two things I’m keen to do next.”

“But if for whatever reason the planets align, you can never tell,” he added.

“Too often, you’re lining up to do a movie and then something happens. Some things fall into place and some don’t, so all I can say is we’ll see.”

The Mad Max franchise has had a storied history, beginning with Mel Gibson’s original trilogy (Mad Max, Mad Max 2, and Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome).

In 2015, Miller rebooted the series with Mad Max: Fury Road, starring Tom Hardy as Max and Charlize Theron as Furiosa. The film became a critical and commercial hit, but tensions between Hardy and Theron behind the scenes cast doubt on a direct sequel.

This is not the first time a Fury Road sequel has been discussed. A follow-up titled The Wasteland was rumoured for years, but Tom Hardy, who played Max, recently cast doubt on it.

“I don’t think that’s happening,” he earlier told Forbes.
