Harry Potter fans have slammed J. K. Rowling after she made a sarcastic remark about David Tennant.

Tennant, who played Barty Crouch Jr. in the “Harry Pottermovies, became the target of Rowling’s joke on Saturday, shortly after Kemi Badenoch secured the Tory leadership vote.

Earlier this year, Tennant had clashed with Badenoch, criticizing her during his acceptance speech at the British LGBT Awards, where he received the Celebrity Ally award.

He said he wished the former equalities minister would “shut up” in response to her views on LGBTQ+ issues.

Badenoch, who is now the Tory leader, had previously backed making biological sex a protected characteristic in the Equality Act, instead of just gender reassignment.

After Badenoch’s victory, Rowling sarcastically tweeted, “My thoughts and prayers are with David Tennant at this very difficult time,” stirring up controversy.

In June, Tennant expressed disappointment over Kemi Badenoch’s views.

He said, “If I’m honest, I’m a little depressed by the fact that acknowledging that everyone has the right to be who they want to be and live their life how they want to live it as long as they’re not hurting anyone else should merit any kind of special award or special mention – because it’s common sense, isn’t it?”

He further added, “It is human decency.”

“We shouldn’t live in a world where that is worth remarking on.”

“However, until we wake up and Kemi Badenoch doesn’t exist any more – I don’t wish ill of her, I just wish her to shut up – whilst we do live in this world, I am honoured to receive this.”

Badenoch then hit back at Tennant, “I will not shut up. I will not be silenced by men who prioritise applause from Stonewall over the safety of women and girls.”

“A rich, lefty, white male celebrity so blinded by ideology he can’t see the optics of attacking the only black woman in government by calling publicly for my existence to end.”

Fans were quick to criticize J.K. Rowling after she clashed with David Tennant, with one person commenting, “Picking a fight with David Tennant is a CRAZY move.”

Another X user wrote, “Reminder that David Tennant is one of the many people who helped make your story be as famous as it is.”

While some sided with Rowling, others defended Tennant, pointing out that he’s “unlikely to give a s**t about who’s in charge.”

Another user chimed in, “David Tennant is a much better person than you will ever be.”

One person called Rowling’s comment “uncalled for,” while another remarked, “Picking a fight with David Tennant is a CRAZY move.”
