Highly praised psychological thriller deemed ‘better than Breaking Bad’ by those who watched

ByVinay Sharma

Some fans are calling a psychological thriller with an almost perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes “even better than Breaking Bad.”

The critically acclaimed series, which originally aired from 2015 to 2019, follows Elliot Alderson (played by Oscar-winner Rami Malek), a socially anxious cybersecurity expert turned vigilante hacker.

Elliot is recruited by the mysterious and unorthodox anarchist known as Mr Robot (Christian Slater) to join a hacktivist group known as “fsociety”.

In the show’s first season, “society” sets out to wipe the records of one of the world’s biggest corporations in a radical attempt to erase consumer debt.

The story blends psychological tension with social commentary, drawing inspiration from Fight Club and other conspiracy-laced thrillers.

Mr. Robot was created by Sam Esmail, who recently returned to screens with Netflix’s apocalyptic thriller Leave the World Behind.

Despite never reaching the same level of mainstream dominance as Breaking Bad or Game of Thrones, the series built a passionate following thanks to its bold story choices and genre-defying style.

The series also featured BD Wong, Bobby Cannavale, Carly Chaikin, Grace Gummer and Portia Doubleday across its four-season run.

Following a recent resurgence of interest, fans have taken to social media to share their admiration for the show.

One fan wrote on X, “Just finished rewatching MR ROBOT cuz this might be the greatest show ever created on this fkin planet cuz I wanna rewatch it over again & again man it’s even better than Breaking Bad, Sam Esmail and Rami Malek just take a bow.”

“What geniuses. Fkin nailed it. Whaaaata masterpiece.”

Another added, “The rewatch is even better. This show is a masterpiece.”

“From the first minute to the last second.”

A third echoed the sentiment, writing: “This show demands multiple viewing tbh I’m out of words to describe the writing, it was next level. Mr. Robot is still playing in my head. Pure acting masterclass from all the cast and crew.”
