The next Lord of the Rings movie, The Hunt for Gollum, has finally received a new update from Warner Bros. boss David Zaslav.
As of writing, there aren’t many details about the movie publicly known, besides confirmation that Andy Serkis will return to both direct and reprise his iconic role as Gollum.
In addition, Middle-earth veteran Peter Jackson will return to produce alongside his trusty team, Philippa Boyens and Fran Walsh.
The Hunt for Gollum update

While speaking during a financial call, Zaslav referred to The Lord of the Rings as one of the studio’s “big tentpoles” in its roster, pinning it alongside franchises such as DC and Harry Potter.
The Warner Bros. boss then proceeded to provide a direct update for the movie.
“We’ve got a great script on Lord of the Rings with Peter Jackson that we’re moving forward on, and we’ll be giving you more detail on that.”
Although the update may be shy of new information, it does instil some confidence that a good story has been cooked up by the team.
Filming is still expected to begin sometime in early to mid-2026, giving the project plenty of time ahead of its December 17, 2027, release date.
As for Zaslav’s update, note how he seemingly confirms “more detail” will be revealed soon.
This could imply a cast announcement could be headed our way sooner rather than later.
