Joker: Folie à Deux set photos earlier this year revealed Lady Gaga kissing another woman in character as Lee Quinzel, however, the scene was revealed on the big screen to have been cut out of the movie.
This left fans wondering why the scene was cut following the movie’s theatrical release.
Director Todd Phillips spoke to Entertainment Weekly in a recent interview to explain.

The kissing scene was supposed to appear before one of Arthur Fleck’s court appearances in the newly released Joker sequel, the titular character played by Joaquin Phoenix.
Gaga’s Lee Quinzel is released from Arkham and then goes to support Arthur in the courthouse.
As she walks up the stairs, she dances and sings before entering the building, however, in the original version – she passes a group of protestors on the steps before kissing a woman from the crowd.
“It had dialogue in it, and, all of a sudden, I wanted it to be more of a music and vibe moment,” Phillips told Entertainment Weekly.
“For that moment to have played, it needed dialogue behind it. Meaning, the woman said something.”
“Then Gaga stopped and did this thing, and it just kind of got in the way of the moment,” he added.
Phillips also revealed that it was Gaga who had actually improvised that kiss.
Sadly, regardless of which scenes stayed in the movie, fans seem mostly displeased with the sequel as a whole – with it becoming ranked lower than the “worst film of 2024” in terms of box office results.
“Wouldn’t have made it any better,” one fan responded to the news of Gaga’s cut scene.
“[The] film was terrible and almost like the director didn’t want to do it,” they added.
