Keanu Reeves says his body can not ‘cope’ with another John Wick movie

Keanu Reeves has shared a grim update regarding his involvement in a potential fifth John Wick film as he nears the age of 60.

The iconic actor has been portraying the legendary assassin for a decade, starting with the franchise’s debut in 2014.

Although a new movie in the John Wick series has not been officially announced, the Hollywood star admitted he’s unsure if his body can endure another intense instalment.

While promoting Sonic the Hedgehog 3 on CBS This Morning, Keanu was asked about his role in the Ballerina spin-off and whether he might return as the lead in another John Wick film.

He said, “You can never say never, but my knees right now are saying, ‘You can’t do another John Wick.’”

“‘So, my heart does, but I don’t know if my knees can do it…”

The John Wick franchise is renowned for its high-octane action and Keanu Reeves’ dedication to performing many of his own stunts.

This level of commitment has required intense training and has taken a physical toll on the actor over the years. 

In John Wick: Chapter 4, which was released in March 2023, Reeves’ character appeared to meet his end after a climactic duel with his friend Caine, played by Donnie Yen.

The film was a massive success, earning over $440 million globally on a $100 million budget.

Despite the seemingly final chapter of Wick’s story, speculation about a fifth instalment continues. 

In a chat with Screenrant, producer Erica Lee previously expressed interest in continuing the series but stressed the importance of having a strong idea and the right circumstances. 

She said, “I think we set this bar so high in 4, and we left it all on the table. I say we burn the house down when we make the movie.”

Director Chad Stahelski has also shown openness to returning to the franchise but is cautious about forcing a continuation.

He admitted to the outlet, “I’m massively in love with the characters and the world that we’ve built. I really love it.” 

“Do I want to try other things? Yes, but to be brutally honest with you, if I was smart enough and good enough to come up with a way to continue the story, I would.”

He also added, “It just felt right to end where Keanu and I both just in our hearts and our souls, felt it was good to do what we did.”

While fans may have to wait longer for John Wick 5, the John Wick spin-off Ballerina is scheduled for release on June 6, 2025.
