Kristin Davis is reflecting on some of the tough moments she faced while filming Sex and the City, including a topless scene she says she didn’t want to do.
On the latest episode of her Are You a Charlotte? podcast, Davis, now 60, recalled how showrunner Michael Patrick King ‘forced’ her to go topless for a Season 5 episode.
She said, “Michael Patrick [King] forced me to do it. He kept telling me, ‘It’ll be fine. It’ll be great.’”

The scene took place in a public restaurant, which Davis described as “mortifying.” She said the experience gave her anxiety at the time.
“And it is [a good scene]. But we were in a restaurant. There were people everywhere,” she added.
While speaking with writer and guest Jenny Bicks, Davis also brought up a different nude scene from Season 6, where her character, Charlotte, steps into a mikveh bath during her conversion to Judaism.
That moment, she said, felt more meaningful, but still came with challenges.
Davis went on, “It was a very, very integral part of the storyline. Because it wasn’t sexual, it’s much easier to have some nudity in a non-sexual way in a spiritual way.”
Even so, she said the set wasn’t exactly peaceful. Crew members were smoking cigars and standing in her line of vision while she tried to shoot the emotional scene.
She said, “I was like, ‘Uh, I’m trying to do something here without feeling self-conscious. Could you possibly move all those guys?’ It’s crazy back then what went on.”
Despite her role on a hugely influential show, Davis said she still had to fight to be heard on set.

“Even in a situation where you theoretically did have so much power, all that stuff was still able to happen,” she added.
Looking back, she shared she’s proud of the mikveh scene.
“It was gorgeous, romantic perfection,” she said.
She also joked about how much she stressed over nudity.
“I was so stressed … [but] I should have just been running through town with my shirt off.”
This isn’t the first time Davis has spoken out about feeling uncomfortable on set.
In a February interview with People, she said there were times she didn’t feel “protected” and had to call her manager from her dressing room in the middle of the night.
She added, “I had to hide in my dressing room and call my manager in LA at 2 in the morning.”
