Ricky Gervais reveals jokes he would have used as 2025 Golden Globes host

ByShashwat

Ricky Gervais might not have hosted this year’s Golden Globe Awards, but that didn’t stop him from taking a few well-aimed shots at Hollywood from the comfort of his bathtub.

The five-time Golden Globes host, who previously helmed the ceremony in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2016, and 2020, hopped on social media to share a handful of scathing jokes he would have told if he had returned for the 82nd awards show.

Unsurprisingly, no one was safe - from Justin Timberlake and Kevin Hart to Sean “Diddy” Combs and even The Vatican.

“Sat in the bath wondering about what I would say if I were hosting The Golden Globes on Sunday.”

“It’s been a pretty good year for material,” Gervais posted on X, proving that even without a microphone, he can still steal the spotlight.

He kicked things off with a jab aimed at Hollywood’s ties to The Vatican, saying:

“Hello, and welcome to the 82nd Golden Globe Awards.”

“What a year it’s been. Hundreds of entertainers jumped at the chance to go to The Vatican to meet The Pope.”

“Many from Hollywood. Obviously, they weren’t content with only being part of the 2nd biggest pedo ring in the world…”

Ouch. No topic too big, no institution too sacred.

Next, he turned his attention to Justin Timberlake, poking fun at the pop star’s recent run-in with the law.

“Justin Timberlake was convicted of drink driving,” Gervais wrote. “If he’d have gone to jail, he’d have heard the words ‘Sexy Back’ a lot more often.”

Then there was his jab at Kevin Hart and Sean “Diddy” Combs, blending humour with controversy in a way only Gervais can pull off.

“Kevin Hart said that being at one of Diddy’s parties was uncomfortable, as he wouldn’t leave him alone,” Gervais joked.

“Eventually, he had to shout ‘Imma Midget, not a child.’”

Hart’s height, Combs’s recent legal troubles, and Gervais’s signature irreverence all collide in this punchline, proving once again that his comedy doesn’t play it safe.

Gervais’s online roasting session came after this year’s host, Nikki Glaser, made it clear she wouldn’t be taking the same “no holds barred” approach during her first outing.

Glaser told reporters that while she respects Gervais’s work, she plans to keep things a bit more restrained.

“I’m not gonna go so hard that anyone’s gonna be offended,” Glaser said, adding that she’s not trying to “pull a Ricky Gervais” since this is her first time hosting the event.“

“He really went hard on his last one.”

“He was ready to burn some bridges because it didn’t matter anymore.”

Gervais’s 2020 performance, which skewered everything from Jeffrey Epstein to corporate hypocrisy, cemented his reputation as one of Hollywood’s sharpest critics.
