In an interview with Collider, director Matt Reeves confirmed the progress for The Batman trilogy – starring Robert Pattinson – is still progressing.

Even though The Batman was released in 2022, with the sequel now beginning production two years later, the trilogy is still envisioned.

With Robert Pattinson to continue the role of the disgruntled Dark Knight, The Batman Part II is set to release on October 2nd 2026.

“Things kind of shifted,” Reeves told Collider.

“So, when we came up with the idea to do The Penguin, that was something where I had always intended to continue Penguin’s story and wanted to tell this story of his beginning of rise to power.”

“Because we know that he’s introduced in The Batman as a kind of mid-level, sort of overlooked, mocked figure, who’s not yet in anyone’s eyes the kingpin we come to know him as in the lore,” he added.

“And so, that was deliberate because I wanted – whereas it wasn’t Batman’s origin story, I wanted the origin stories of these other characters, of the Rogues Gallery and that story was originally going to be the entrée into the next movie.”

Originally it was scheduled to be released in 2025, however, Warner Bros. has reshuffled many of their upcoming release dates over the next several years.

Little has been shared about The Batman sequel as of yet, other than how filming is due to begin next year.

Some have guessed that the story will be taking place during winter time in Gotham, whilst others are eager to see how Barry Keoghan dons the iconic role of The Joker to make it his own.

Co-writer for The Batman Part 2, Mattson Tomlin, shared that the film will be “shooting next year.”

“We’re gearing up, and I will say that the bar just couldn’t be higher.”

Whilst fans wait for the highly anticipated sequel, the crime saga show The Penguin will follow the mobster and supervillain during his escapades in Gotham.

With Colin Farrell retuning as the villain, the show follows the events of the first film with Oswald Cobblepot, The Penguin, making a play to take the reins of the Gotham crime world.

This Batman and Penguin remake is separate form the upcoming rebooted DCU with James Gunn and Peter Safran, who are debuting the new superhero universe with Superman in 2025.
