Seth Rogen reveals reason Emma Watson refused to finish filming his ‘uncomfortable’ movie

Emma Watson once made headlines for walking off the set of This Is The End after refusing to film an outrageous scene involving Channing Tatum.

Although Watson has stepped back from acting in recent years, she was a major A-lister throughout the 2010s.

One of Watson’s lesser-known films is the 2013 disaster comedy, which also stars Seth Rogen, James Franco, and Jonah Hill.

The film follows a group of Hollywood celebrities facing an apocalyptic event and has actors playing over-the-top versions of themselves, pushing the cast to their comedic limits.

The Harry Potter star reportedly refused to film a scene where Channing Tatum wore a gimp mask and was led on a chain by a cannibal version of Danny McBride.

It’s unclear what Watson’s role in the scene would have been, but a version of it was still included in the film without her.

After the release of This Is The End over a decade ago, rumours spread that Watson walked off-set because she felt a particular scene went too far.

In an interview with GQ, Seth Rogen set the record straight about the incident. 

He said, “I mean, I don’t look back on that and think: ‘How dare she do that?’ You know?

“Sometimes when you read something, and then see it come to life, it’s not what you thought it would be.”

Rogen added, “But it wasn’t some terrible ending to our relationship. She came back the next day to say goodbye.”

“She helped promote the film.” 

“No hard feelings, and I couldn’t be happier with how the film turned out in the end.” 

“She was probably right.”

“It was probably funnier the way we ended up doing it.”

After the interview, Rogen took to Instagram to deny rumours that Watson walked off-set because she was asked not to be part of the scene.

He wrote, “I want to correct a story that has emerged from a recent interview I gave. It misrepresents what actually happened.”

“Emma Watson did not ‘storm off the set’ and it’s sh***y that the perception is that she did.”

“The scene was not what was originally scripted, it was getting improvised, changed drastically and was not what she agreed to.”

“The narrative that she was in some way uncool or unprofessional is complete bull***t,” he added.

“I for sure should have communicated better and because I didn’t, she was put in an uncomfortable position.”

Despite the controversy, This Is The End went on to achieve commercial success, grossing over $125 million worldwide.
