It’s been 17 years since Seth Rogen and James Franco’s stoner comedy Pineapple Express hit cinemas.
The 2008 cult hit followed process server Dale Denton and his easygoing dealer Saul Silver, played by Franco, on the run after they stumbled into a dangerous drug war.
With sequels and reboots popping up everywhere, fans have long wondered if Pineapple Express 2 could happen.
While promoting his Apple TV+ series Platonic on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, Rogen was asked about the possibility of a sequel.

“Maybe,” he began. “We can probably sell it to streaming or something.”
When Cohen suggested there could be “big demand” for a sequel, Rogen replied, “There could be.”
“You never know. I don’t know. I’m not great with sequels… but maybe one day.”
This isn’t the first time he’s considered doing the Pineapple Express sequel.
Back in 2020, Rogen revealed on The Howard Stern Show that he once pitched a follow-up to Sony Pictures.
The idea was shut down over budget concerns, something he later pointed out was confirmed in leaked Sony emails from the infamous hack.
He admitted, “I think we probably wanted too much money.”
“Studios, they don’t like giving away money.”

Even if a sequel got the go-ahead now, it would almost certainly look different.
Rogen’s long-running creative partnership with Franco ended after allegations of sexual misconduct surfaced in 2018. Franco later settled a lawsuit with two women for $2.2 million in 2021.
Speaking to Variety earlier this year, Franco said: “I love Seth… but I guess it’s over. And not for lack of trying.”
Rogen told The Times in 2021 that the accusations “changed many things in our relationship and our dynamic,” adding, “I have not and I do not plan to [work with him].”
Without the original duo, a Pineapple Express sequel seems unlikely, but fans are still curious about what Dale Denton might be up to, brown suit and all.
