Willow Smith admits that she ‘loves being crazy for other people’s enjoyment’

PublishedLast updated

Willow Smith is releasing her deluxe album for Empathogen, her sixth studio album, which released in May.

She labels the album as her “first grown-up album”, with fans reviewing it as “an absolute delight.”

However, the American singer has promoted little about the latest version of her album, instead just excited about sharing it with her friends.

“I’m just excited for the homies to watch me be crazy, because I love doing that.”

She continued sharing how she enjoys this persona and being “crazy.”

“I love being crazy for other people’s enjoyment.”

Smith, who is also known mononymously as Willow, shared her experience in writing her latest album.

“I pretty much locked myself in my house for six months and only practiced music for hours and hours a day.”

Her album managed to hit the No.1 spot on Billboard’s Contemporary Jazz Album charts, with features from Jon Batiste and St. Vincent.

The album was also the first of hers to chart in the Jazz category, diverting from her once R&B and rock style.

“I want to shy away from genre-specific descriptions of my music in the future because good music is just good music,” she said.

“All I want to do for the rest of my life is get better at my technical ability and my honesty and my spiritual connection, just deepen that.”

“And whatever kind of music comes from that isn’t as important as the space that it’s being created from.”

Empathogen Deluxe released on September 27th.
