Amy Schumer claims online comments regarding her ‘moon face’ led to shocking health discovery

"At first, I was like, ‘F**k off'."

Amy Schumer has shared that online trolls unexpectedly helped her discover a serious health condition.

The Trainwreck star recently opened up about how comments on her “puffier face” led to the discovery of Cushing Syndrome, a condition that might have otherwise gone unnoticed.

Last year, after receiving a flood of remarks about her appearance, Schumer responded by saying that “a woman doesn’t need any excuse for her physical appearance and owes no explanation”.

While she admitted her face was puffier than usual, she didn’t realize at the time that a medical condition was behind it.

Schumer was later diagnosed with Cushing Syndrome, a condition caused by prolonged exposure to high cortisol levels.

According to the Mayo Clinic, it can result from the body producing excess cortisol or from medications like glucocorticoids.

Symptoms include acne, slow wound healing, easy bruising, and weight gain in the face (known as “moon face”) and upper body.

During an appearance on the Call Her Daddy podcast, Schumer shared how comments from trolls—some of whom seemed to have medical knowledge—helped her recognize something was wrong.

“At first, I was like, ‘F**k off,’” she said.

However, after seeing remarks mentioning steroid injections and Cushing Syndrome, she started to take them seriously.

She added, “I’m like, ‘Wait, I’m getting trolled by doctors?'”

Schumer revealed she had been receiving steroid treatments to recover from her breast reduction and C-section scars, which may have contributed to her condition.

She acknowledged that, ironically, those unsolicited comments helped her get the diagnosis she might have otherwise missed.

She stated, “So I got these was getting these steroid injections and so it gave me this thing called Cushing syndrome — which I wouldn’t have known if the internet hadn’t come for me so hard.”
