Barry Keoghan teases Netflix’s upcoming Peaky Blinders movie is going to be ‘epic’

The Irish actor discussed his recent and upcoming roles with IndieWire at the Toronto International Film Festival.

His latest film Bird follows the story of 12-year-old Bailey, played by Nykiya Adams, living with her father (Keoghan) on the other side of town from her mother and sisters.

Keoghan shared his experiences working with the young actor on her first project.

“First of all, getting to work with Andrea Arnold on your first movie, I’m jealous.”

“Yeah, it was an experience, and it was fascinating to watch Nykiya and Jason [Buda] do the work and not have that training and bring that emotion and that trust and that state of vulnerability and I was just fascinated by that.”

After discussing the film, Keoghan was asked about his latest casting in the upcoming Peaky Blinders film.

Little has been shared about the film as of yet, apart from the casting that Cillian Murphy will be returning to the iconic role of Tommy Shelby.

The Saltburn actor shared how he discussed the film with Murphy, and how he didn’t feel connected to it until reading the script.

“I wouldn’t be attached to it if I didn’t [read the script],” he said.

“But yeah, I read the script and loved it and have chatted to Cillian about it and it’s going to be epic.”

The updates for the Peaky Blinders film have been slow and steady, however, with director Tom Harper and script writer Steven Knight returning, it’s safe to say fans are in for a treat.

The Birmingham-based film will be coming to Netflix in association with BBC Film.

Murphy told Netflix: “It is very gratifying to be recollaborating with Steven Knight and Tom Harper on the film version of Peaky Blinders. This is one for the fans.”

“It seems like Tommy Shelby wasn’t finished with me.”

Bird comes to theatres on the 8th of November.
