Fans hoping for Moon Knight Season 2 get less than encouraging update

Fans of Moon Knight might want to brace themselves, because the latest update on season 2 isn’t encouraging.

The MCU series, which primarily starred Oscar Isaac as Marc Spector and his alternative personality Steven Grant, premiered on Disney+ in 2022.

It received strong reviews and ended on a cliffhanger that had many expecting a follow-up.

But more than two years later, the character hasn’t returned to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and now it seems a second season may not be happening anytime soon.

Isaac made it clear while promoting the series that he only committed to one season, meaning a fresh deal would be needed for Marc Spector, Steven Grant and Jake Lockley to return.

Marvel boss Kevin Feige has hinted there is “a future for that character,” though he offered no further details.

Speculation has since shifted to the character possibly joining the rumoured Midnight Sons film.

Speaking to Screen Rant about his work on Eyes of Wakanda, composer Hesham Nazih admitted that even those closely involved remain in the dark.

“That’s the million-dollar question. No one knows. Not even Mohamed Diab,” he said of the show’s director.

He added, “No one ever talked about this.”

“No one knows. If you ask anyone, which I did, I only get, ‘No one knows.’”

That echoes what has been reported previously, with Marvel Television now restructuring its approach to focus on annual releases rather than multiple new series each year.

It doesn’t sound like a second season of Moon Knight is part of that immediate plan.

Had the Multiverse Saga stayed on course with Kang the Conqueror as its central villain, many fans believed Moon Knight might have faced Rama-Tut in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.

With Avengers: Doomsday now in development, the character’s role remains uncertain within the MCU.

The first season closed on a major twist when Marc and Steven thought they’d broken free of Khonshu, only for Jake Lockley to be revealed as still working for the Moon God.

If the character does appear in Midnight Sons, it seems likely Lockley will be the one behind the mask.
