The Last of Us star Bella Ramsey admits ‘part of me wishes that I didn’t come out as non-binary’

The Last of Us star Bella Ramsay announced two years ago they were non binary now Ramsay has admitted they regret it.

Part of the reason was how the media portrayed it and how it was made out to be such a big deal, adding that “being gendered isn’t something that I particularly like.”

Speaking to The Observer, Ramsay revealed that, “Part of me looks back and I wish that I didn’t, because I didn’t want it to become a headline and a big thing.”

“And obviously it was going to, and I didn’t really understand that at the time. And I wasn’t really prepared for that.”

Although she added that it felt quite freeing telling the public about the decision and that it felt nice not having any secrets.

“But on the other hand, people have said to me that it’s been very helpful for them seeing some representation.”

“So it’s been a mixed bag, but overall, I think it was a good thing, just for me living more freely, without feeling like I’m keeping a secret.”

“But now I’m like, ‘I’ll talk about it, but I don’t want it to be the focus any more.’”

“I guess I’m just quite chill with it. And I want everyone else to be as chill with it basically.”

Speaking to the New York Times in 2023, Bella admitted that if someone called them a male, it would excite them.

“I guess my gender has always been very fluid.”

“Someone would call me ‘she’ or ‘her’ and I wouldn’t think about it, but I knew that if someone called me ‘he’ it was a bit exciting.”

If she sees the “non binary” option on a form she is filling out then she decides to tick that rather than male or female but that she is very much just a person.

If she sees the “nonbinary” option on a form, she will tick it, as opposed to ticking off the “male” or “female” gender options.

“I’m very much just a person,” she explained.

She continued: “Being gendered isn’t something that I particularly like, but in terms of pronouns, I really couldn’t care less.”
