Billie Eilish’s mom shuts down ‘nepo baby’ claims following fans discovering her Friends cameo

ByAlex Duthie

Billie Eilish and her brother Finneas have both already achieved the “dream” in terms of success in the music industry, not to mention their work in the movie business’ musical side of things.

Finneas, a fellow singer and songwriter, has often been pointed out by fans as a massive aid to his sister Billie’s worldwide success.

To this day, he remains the only main music producer for the “Ocean Eyes” singer.

However, despite the two being perceived by some fans as the only famous members of their family, some may be surprised to find out that their mother is also known in the world of show business.

Finneas and Billie’s mother, Maggie Baird, is an American actor known for starring in smaller roles throughout various titles from the early 1980s to the modern day.

Eagle-eyed fans of her two children were shocked to discover that she had made a cameo during an episode of the iconic sitcom Friends.

In an episode of the sixth season, in which Joey auditions for a pet food advert, Finneas and Billie’s mother Maggie stars as a casting director.

Although many fans were just pleasantly surprised, some went on to claim that her being in the entertainment industry means that Finneas and Billie are “nepo babies”.

However, Maggie hit back at claims while talking to Glamour in response to her old Friends cameo resurfacing and doing the rounds on the web.

“I think it’s hilarious,” she told the outlet.

She continued: “Because that came out, and it was like, ‘Oh, Billie is a nepo baby.’ And I’m like, ‘Did you know that I got that episode of Friends because I was about to lose my health insurance?’.”

She added: “My husband and I were working-class actors.”

“We eked out a meagre living, and it afforded us a lot of time with our kids, which was awesome. But the industry is primarily people like us or even people not even like us who couldn’t even do that.”

“So when all of this happened to our kids, we’d never been on that side of it.”

“I think that people don’t really understand there’s a whole industry of people who are creative and they’re working and they’re struggling, and they make perfectly happy lives, and they feel creative, and they feel fulfilled,” she added.

“But that’s a very different life than on this side of the door where you’re suddenly playing in this different arena.”

In addition to their mother being in the acting world, Finneas and Billie’s father Patrick is also an actor, with both parents working years just to obtain small roles.

Eilish told Rolling Stone in a past interview: “Acting is super weird. You can work for years and years and be the best in the world and never get a role, and you can be mediocre, do one audition, and become a huge star.”

“For years, I saw my parents beat up over the fact that they didn’t have it better. And that drove me insane – because they were really good! My dad is the best actor I’ve ever seen.”

Billie’s father Patrick has starred in small roles in titles such as 2008’s Iron Man, and The West Wing, as well as lending his voice to games such as Splinter Cell and Saints Row: The Third.

Although Maggie has various smaller live-action roles, some gamers may be surprised to discover that she is also the voice of Samara in the Mass Effect video game series.
