Charlie Hunnam has officially been cast as Ed Gein in Netflix’s third season of Monster, the notorious serial killer also famously known as the partial inspiration behind The Texas Chain Saw‘s Leatherface.
As per Variety, Monster co-creator Ryan Murphy announced the news onstage during a Los Angeles promotional event for the upcoming second season of the show.
In the first season, X-Men actor Evan Peters portrayed infamous serial killer, Jeffrey Dahmer, with season 2 set to tell the tale of two “monsters” this time round, the Menendez brothers.

Like Dahmer, Gein was also from Wisconsin, becoming infamous during the 1950s when local authorities made the awful discovery that he had killed multiple people.
In addition to his heinous crimes, the authorities also horrifyingly discovered that he had dug up graves from a cemetery nearby his home, and used human remains to fashion various household items out of.
His infamous crimes went on to influence fictional pop culture characters such as Norman Bates in Alfred Hitchcock’s legendary 1950 classic Psycho, Buffalo Bill in Silence of the Lambs and partially inspired the creation of Leatherface from 1974’s The Texas Chain Saw Massacre.
The Texas Chain Saw Massacre and its characters may have been loosely inspired by the crimes of Gein, however, the majority of its plot is fictional.

The show’s upcoming second season is set to debut on Netflix on September 19.
Its third season, starring Hunnam, has yet to announce a release date.
