Henry Cavill’s Warhammer 40K series loses hope amid new fantasy reboot

ByVinay Sharma

Fans hoping for an update on Henry Cavill’s Warhammer 40,000 series may have to wait a long while.

The Amazon project has seemingly been placed on the back burner indefinitely.

Amazon first announced its plans to adapt Warhammer 40,000 back in 2022, with Henry Cavill not only starring but also serving as an executive producer.

The news sent fans into a frenzy at the time, especially since Cavill is a lifelong Warhammer enthusiast who has spoken often about his passion for the tabletop game.

But the excitement has since cooled down.

Nearly three years later, the project has barely moved forward.

Other than a brief Instagram post last year confirming Amazon’s involvement, there has been no substantial progress to report.

The series still doesn’t even have a showrunner, a director, or even a supporting cast in place.

So it could take years before the series reaches screens.

The inevitable delay comes as Cavill turns his focus on Highlander, a big-budget reboot which is set to start filming in Scotland later this year.

The project already has Russell Crowe and Dave Bautista on board and is planned as the first in a trilogy.

Another factor slowing things down is Games Workshop’s tight control over the lore.

The company is reportedly being cautious to prevent conflicts with its upcoming novels and video games.

Author Dan Abnett even revealed that several of his titles, including Pandaemonium, have been put on hold while the TV adaptation is worked out.

Cavill himself has acknowledged the scale of the challenge.

Speaking to Esquire in May, he called Warhammer a dream project but admitted the IP is “tricky and complex,” adding that he’s relishing the challenge of bringing it to the screen properly.

He shared, “[Bringing Warhammer to life] is a dream come true, but it’s different from what I’ve done before… It is a tricky IP, and a very complex IP, and that’s what I love about it.

“The challenges that come with putting this on the page in a way that is doing justice to that complexity, that trickiness, and that nuance, is a challenge I’m enjoying enormously.”
