James Bond producer Barbara Broccoli has shared some interesting details about the future of the famous franchise, saying that the next 007 won’t be restricted by race.
Speaking to the Associated Press about who might take over the role after Daniel Craig’s retirement following No Time To Die, Barbara Broccoli said, “It’s a big decision.”
She confirmed the next Bond will be a “man” and, according to reports, added, “He’ll likely be in his 30s. Whiteness is not a given.”
The 64-year-old producer also mentioned that whoever takes on the role will need to commit to “at least a decade’s worth of films.”
Her co-producer and brother Michael G Wilson then added, “Every time we cast a new actor, the films change. It’s the excitement of a new Bond, a new direction.”
“Every one of these people who took on the role offered something new and different.”
Aaron Taylor-Johnson has emerged as a leading contender after impressing producers in a reported screen test, sparking rumours since early 2023.
Former Bond actors like Pierce Brosnan and George Lazenby have even voiced support for him.
Other potential candidates being discussed include Regé-Jean Page, Cillian Murphy, Tom Hardy, and Idris Elba.
Daniel Craig starred in five James Bond films, starting with Casino Royale in 2006, followed by Quantum of Solace in 2008, Skyfall in 2012, Spectre in 2015, and finally No Time To Die in 2021, after which he retired from the role.
When asked by Variety who he’d like to see take over the Bond role, Craig bluntly replied, “I don’t care.”
No actor has officially been announced for the role of James Bond yet.
