James Gunn is keeping the excitement for Superman alive with a new behind-the-scenes photo celebrating the anniversary of The Engineer, a character set to appear in the upcoming DC film.
In a recent post, Gunn shared an image of actress María Gabriela De Faría, fully suited up as The Engineer, lying on a stadium field.
Alongside the picture, Gunn acknowledged the character’s creators, Warren Ellis and Bryan Hitch, and praised De Faría’s portrayal.
He wrote, “Happy Anniversary to the Engineer, created by Warren Ellis and Bryan Hitch, who you can see played to sinister perfection by puppy in human form @thefaria in #Superman this July!”
The Engineer, also known as Angela Spica, is a cybernetically enhanced being with nanotechnology-infused blood, giving her incredible abilities like shapeshifting and advanced weaponry.
She first appeared in The Authority comics and is now making her live-action debut in Gunn’s Superman film, which is set to redefine the DC Universe.
The upcoming Superman reboot is set to introduce several key characters alongside David Corenswet’s Man of Steel.
The film features Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, and Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, along with appearances from Perry White, Hawkgirl, Mister Terrific, Metamorpho, and Guy Gardner.

There are also rumours that Milly Alcock’s Supergirl may make a brief appearance before leading her own solo film, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.
The anticipation surrounding Superman continues to grow, fueled by the record-breaking teaser trailer, which raked in over 250 million views within its first 24 hours, making it the most-watched DC and Warner Bros. trailer ever.
Gunn has been steadily sharing updates and promotional content ahead of the film’s release.
The Superman ensemble cast also includes Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, Wendell Pierce as Perry White, Mikaela Hoover as Cat Grant, Beck Bennett as Steve Lombard, and even Krypto the Superdog.
