Marvel is introducing a brand-new Hawkeye, this time not being Clint Barton, in its new version of the Ultimate universe.
In the new revamped Ultimate universe, most well-known Marvel heroes are who they once were in previous iterations, with Clint Barton being one of them.
Now set in a universe where heroes are rare after a Reed Richards variant, The Maker, redesigned reality in order to ensure a certain number of superheroes come to be.

Spider-Man, for example, in this universe was never bitter by the famous radioactive spider.
Marvel’s iconic team Fantastic Four were also never formed, however, this universe’s Reed Richards becomes a good version of Doctor Doom.
After Clint Barton refuses to become Hawkeye, new hero Charli Ramsey takes on the job.
Charli Ramsey has also been confirmed by Marvel to be a non-binary character who comes from the Oglala Band of the Native American Lakota Nation tribe.

“When I did my research into the water protectors/Standing Rock, something that was emphasised again and again was the importance of queer and ‘two-spirit’ organisers to the movement,” writer Deniz Camp said in a post.
“I wanted to put that into the book.”
Camp continued to state that they “didn’t want to make a big deal of” this universe’s Hawkeye pronouns, as it will only become important when it’s “natural to the narrative” of the story.
