Superman parody character Mighty Mouse getting his very own movie with Ryan Reynolds

Fresh off the success of Deadpool & Wolverine, Ryan Reynolds might have his next comic book project lined up.

As Variety has reported, he is set to star in a new comic book movie featuring Mighty Mouse, a character originally created as a playful parody of Superman.

The project is being developed by Paramount Animation in partnership with Reynolds’ production company, Maximum Effort Productions.

While the project’s director has not been revealed, Matt Lieberman, known for writing Free Guy (which also starred Reynolds), will pen the screenplay.

Mighty Mouse debuted in 1942 in the animated short The Mouse of Tomorrow, created by Terrytoons.

The character was designed to parody the superhero genre, particularly Superman, showcasing powers like super strength and flight.

Mighty Mouse became famous for his bold catchphrase, “Here I come to save the day!”

Over the decades, he appeared in various animated shorts and series, including the 1980s reboot Mighty Mouse: The New Adventures, which introduced him to a new generation of fans.

Although Reynolds’ exact role in the film hasn’t been confirmed, there have been rumblings that he will voice Mighty Mouse in addition to producing.

While Reynolds is working on Mighty Mouse, it’s said to have no connection to the mystery movie he’s developing with Hugh Jackman and director Shawn Levy. 

The Deadpool star has mentioned that this untitled project won’t be part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

As for future Deadpool movies, Reynolds recently said in a podcast, “Oh, now bite your tongue! I would love that, but there’s a reason it’s been six years since the last one.”

“It just sort of swallows my life whole, and I, you know, have four kids that I wouldn’t mind introducing myself to at some point and spending a little time, just walking them to and from school.”
