Singer and actress Duffy appears in public for first time in 10 years after traumatic kidnapping

Duffy has been spotted for the first time in ten years as she previews a fresh remix of her 2008 hit Mercy. 

The 40-year-old singer, whose real name is Aimée Anne Duffy, recently appeared in a video lip-syncing the song’s iconic lyrics, “You got me begging you for mercy, why won’t you release me.” 

Fans quickly noticed she is still rocking her signature blonde look, and her surprise reappearance has sparked excitement online.

The clip was shared on Emotion HQ’s TikTok account, where the upcoming remix was teased as “coming any day now.”

The caption read, “Some of you asked if Duffy was really doing a UK Garage remix with us… #duffy #newmusic #ElectronicMusic #ukgarage #dancemusic #remix.”

Fans flooded the comments, thrilled to see Duffy back in the public eye. 

One Tiktok user wrote, “Duffy! Where have you been?! We missed you,” while another added, “It’s so great to see Duffy back. What a tremendous singer she has always been.”

Another one added, “OMG it’s so good that she’s back.”

A fan even reminisced about attending her concert in Manchester, saying, “Actually love Duffy so much. One of my first live concerts was watching her at the Apollo, and I had the album on repeat for months.”

Duffy’s surprise return follows a long period of silence after she stepped away from the spotlight in 2010.

In 2020, she revealed that she had retreated from public life after surviving a harrowing ordeal.

The singer shared that she was drugged, raped, and taken to a foreign country during a four-week captivity.

In a since-deleted heartbreaking statement on Instagram, Duffy wrote, “Many of you wonder what happened to me, where did I disappear to and why.”

“Of course I survived. The recovery took time.”

“There’s no light way to say it. But I can tell you in the last decade, the thousands and thousands of days I committed to wanting to feel the sunshine in my heart again, the sun does now shine.”

“You wonder why I did not choose to use my voice to express my pain?”

“I did not want to show the world the sadness in my eyes. I asked myself, how can I sing from the heart if it is broken? And slowly it unbroke.”

Duffy rose to fame with her debut album Rockferry, which was the UK’s best-selling album of 2008.

She won three Brit Awards and a Grammy before stepping away from music following her second album in 2010.
