Stephen Baldwin, known for his roles in Born on the Fourth of July and The Usual Suspects, shared his opinions on the acclaimed actor Leonardo Dicaprio.
Dicaprio has been in numerous award-winning films for his impressive portrayals in bibliographical and period films like Titanic, The Wolf of Wall Street and The Great Gatsby.
Baldwin, father of Hailey Bieber and brother to Alec Baldwin, discussed how he believes DiCaprio doesn’t have much talent.
“I think it takes a certain amount of depth and I think it takes a certain amount of presence and the greatest actors of all time were, when you watched them, they affected you.”
DiCaprio has been nominated for six Oscars, winning one for The Revenant.
He has been in Hollywood and the business for over three decades, his first film being Critters 3 in 1991, whilst his debut in TV was the show Roseanne in 1988.
It’s hard to doubt DiCaprio’s A-list status with the endless iconic films he has been a part of, so Baldwin’s take may seem unpopular.
“The business says DiCaprio is great because he’s given great roles,” Baldwin said.
“He’s done some great films, but he’s not a great actor.”
Baldwin instead favored the likes of Al Pacino, comparing him to being like the [Michael] Jordan of “the [acting] game.”
“He’s seen as a great actor not because he’s Gary Oldman. Not because he’s some guy who moved away from the business and did Broadway for 10 years to learn the craft on a deeper level.”
“He didn’t do that.”
He continues by naming Tom Cruise as “the greatest movie star of all-time.”
DiCaprio’s latest film was Killers of the Flower Moon in 2023, which won multiple awards including AFI’s movies of the year.
Baldwin’s latest film A Carpenter’s Prayer was rated 8.3 on IMDb.
