Legendary actor Gene Hackman, his wife Betsy Arakawa, and their dog have all been found dead in their home in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
The American actor is famously known for playing iconic roles such as Lex Luthor alongside Christopher Reeve in Richard Donner’s 1978 classic Superman.
He was 95, and his wife Betsy was 63.

Local Santa Fe authorities confirmed the news.
“We can confirm that both Gene Hackman and his wife were found deceased Wednesday afternoon at their residence on Sunset Trail,” the Santa Fe County Sherrif in New Mexico said in a statement.
The County Sherrif added that as of writing, the investigation had not shown any signs of foul play.
“This is an active investigation.”
“However, at this time, we do not believe that foul play was a factor.”

Before cementing his name as a Hollywood icon in Superman, Hackman had already gained two Oscar nominations under his belt.
His Oscar-nominated roles included Buck Barrow, who he played in 1967’s classic Bonnie and Clyde, starring Faye Dunaway and Warren Beatty.
He was also nominated for his role in 1970’s I Never Sang for My Father and for his role in 1988’s Mississippi Burning.
“On 26 February, 2025 at approximately 1:45 p.m., Santa Fe County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to an address on Old Sunset Trail in Hyde Park where Gene Hackman, 95 and his wife Betsy Arakawa, 64 and a dog were found deceased,” the Sheriff’s office said.
