Size 24 model Tess Holliday hits back at trolls over her ‘restrictive eating disorder’ diagnosis

ByNatalie Duthie

A plus-size model named Tess Holliday, who is the founder of Eff Your Beauty Standards, revealed she was diagnosed with an eating disorder.

The model first went public with her diagnosis in 2021 and has received a lot of hatred. People claim that she is lying for “attention”, which caused Holliday to hit back at trolls in a TikTok video.

“Just because you don’t like that I exist in a larger body and I deal with a restrictive eating disorder doesn’t give you the right to just be a jerk,” she began.

“I know a lot of you guys can’t believe that someone in a larger body can deal with a restrictive eating disorder, but it is true,” she added.

Holliday then spoke of a 2022 article written by New York Times titled “You don’t look anorexic” which spoke of obese people with eating disorders urging her viewers to go and read it.

Responding to the comment, she added, “I also can’t blame you for not knowing because I myself did not know.”

“And the more folks that talk about it and the more folks that normalize it, then the less that we will have to deal with people like [the commenter] who think that they deserve to just say whatever because they don’t like what they’re hearing or seeing.”

The size 24 model added that she is “managing” as she can and that she was not in a “good place.”

“I wish I was in a good place with my recovery, and I felt like this was something that I wanted to talk about more, but I currently don’t.”

“I’m currently just managing things the best I can, and if you don’t like what I’m saying or how I talk about my lived experiences,”

“Then there are a million other people that you can follow, bully, harass, whatever,” she concluded before abruptly ending the video.

Many people show their support for Holliday and believe her video was an eye-opener.

Some thanked her for educating them that some people are “going through things that we cannot see from the outside.”

“I have never really seen anything about this topic. It has been really eye-opening to look into it. Thank you for bringing it to light for me, ” another said.

Another spoke on how they didn’t know how they were gaining weight despite not eating,

“I gained a lot of weight because I wouldn’t eat, and when I did, my body stored everything because my body was in SURVIVAL MODE. I never knew until a doctor educated me.”
