The Batman spinoff series The Penguin is gearing up for its premiere on HBO this month.
The Penguin showrunner Lauren LeFranc has addressed fan speculation regarding Robert Pattinson’s Batman potentially appearing in the show.
In a recent interview with CinemaBlend, LeFranc clarified that the Dark Knight will not be making an appearance as the series aims to explore Gotham City from a different perspective.

LeFranc explained, “It’s interesting because Matt (Reeves) and I always talked about the fact that, in truth, his version of Gotham City is very grounded.”
“Batman’s not everywhere.”
She continued, “It’s a big city! And also, it has been established in the film that he doesn’t really pay much attention to Oz. He doesn’t think he’s really worth paying attention to, in that regard.
“And so, honestly, we didn’t really think in terms of this idea that Batman would be watching. We were just really more focused on following our characters on our show.”
Set to premiere on September 19, 2024, The Penguin takes place one week after the events of Matt Reeves’ The Batman.
The series will focus on Oz Cobb’s rise to power in Gotham’s criminal underworld, with Colin Farrell reprising his role as the titular character.
Despite Batman’s absence, fans can look forward to a star-studded cast including Cristin Milioti as Sofia Falcone, Rhenzy Feliz as Victor Aguilar, and Michael Kelly as Johnny Vitti.
The eight-episode series promises to deliver a dark and violent portrayal of Cobb’s ascent in Gotham’s criminal hierarchy.
The Penguin is set to premiere on HBO on September 19, 2024.
