Vin Diesel fans are only just finding out what his real name is and are completely baffled about it

Vin Diesel is one of Hollywood’s most recognizable action stars, but many fans are only now discovering that his real name is a far cry from the tough-sounding moniker.

The Fast & Furious actor was actually born Mark Vincent.

While it is not quite the name fans would expect from someone known for playing Dominic Toretto, there’s a good reason behind the change.

During a 2005 appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, a year before The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift was released, Diesel shared that his birth name is actually Mark Vincent.

During the interview, Ellen DeGeneres playfully questioned whether ‘Vin Diesel’ was his real name.

Diesel said, “My real name is Mark Vincent.”

Diesel explained how the name came about. He adopted the moniker while working as a bouncer in New York’s nightclub scene.

To protect their identities, bouncers often used fake names, and Diesel’s colleagues eventually dubbed him “Vin Diesel.”

“Vin” was derived from his last name, Vincent, while ‘Diesel’ had a more interesting backstory.

Diesel explained that in New York, people would use the term ‘Diesel’ to describe someone who was well-built or energetic.

“They just started calling me Vin Diesel for some crazy reason,” he recalled, and the name stuck as he transitioned from bouncing to acting.

Although Diesel disclosed this fun fact nearly two decades ago, some fans are still surprised to learn the truth.

Recently, a Reddit user commented, “It’s funny, even with a name as ridiculous as Vin Diesel, I never even questioned whether that was his real name or not haha.”

Another joked, “He actually got Vin from Vehicle Identification Number.”

Someone else quipped, “Diesel is the actual last name of the guy who made the first diesel engine.”
