Will Smith shares eerie ‘jinx’ encounter between himself and two major celebrity deaths

PublishedLast updated

Will Smith has shared unsettling memories of meeting both Prince and The Notorious B.I.G. just hours before their sudden deaths.

The Bad Boys star believes he might have an unexpected connection to two of music’s biggest legends.

While he did win a Grammy back in his Fresh Prince days, most people don’t immediately link the 56-year-old to his rap career anymore.

Now, though, Smith is suggesting he could be a bad luck charm and not in a good way.

Speaking on the Broken Record Podcast, the actor recalled how both encounters happened in the final moments of the artists’ lives.

Smith said, “I don’t even want to say this out loud, ’cause it’s like, a terrible jinx. I met Biggie four hours before he got killed. And I talked to Prince eight hours before he died.”

Smith revealed that his conversation with Prince had centred on a potential business venture.

He explained: “I talked to Prince and, he called and he was pitching. He was saying me, him and Jay-Z should start an entertainment company.”

“And he said he had talked to Jay and he wanted to do it. We talked that night, and in the morning, he was gone. I don’t know what that says about me, Smith explained, referring to Prince’s interest in launching an entertainment company alongside him and Jay-Z.

Prince died on 21 April 2016 from an accidental overdose at his Minnesota estate, Paisley Park.

Smith also reflected on his final conversation with Biggie Smalls, who was killed in a drive-by shooting after leaving a Vibe Magazine party in Los Angeles on 9 March 1997.

The attack, which occurred just months after Tupac Shakur’s murder, remains one of hip-hop’s most notorious unsolved crimes.

Calling the murder “stupid,” Smith said the tragedy deeply affected him.

“It scared me and even brought me to tears,” he admitted.

At the time, Smith was transitioning from his rap career to acting, with Men In Black about to propel him into international stardom.

Podcast host Justin Richmond Richmond responded, saying coincidences like that are bound to happen when “you’ve been through enough in life.

But the actor and rapper shot back with a laugh, “Don’t call me!”
