Woody Harrelson and Liam Hemsworth worked together on the first The Hunger Games film in 2012 and continued to work together up until the fourth installation of the franchise in 2015.
Although the two didn’t interact much in the first film, their two characters began to share more screen time as the franchise progressed.
However, it wasn’t until after the first movie that Harrelson discovered Liam’s A-lister family connection.
In a 2015 interview with Jimmy Kimmel, Kimmel and Liam praised the actor both for his skills and as a person before reacting to the hilarious moment.
“He’s one of my favourite people.”
Kimmel continued to show a clip to the audience of the two on a press tour for the second film, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, in 2013.
Hemsworth, who plays Gale Hawthorne, chats with the interviewer about his brother Chris and how he has “a movie coming out.”
Chris Hemsworth’s film was Thor: The Dark World, the second film of the MCU movie series.
“Where he plays a very dangerous man,” the interviewer continues as Harrelson watches, seemingly putting the pieces together.
“God of thunder,” Liam remarks.
This is when the ball finally drops for his co-star sitting next to him.
Harrelson taps Hemsworth and states, “I never got that he was your brother!”
“And you do have the same last name!”
While both laughing, Liam questioned him, “Are you serious?”
“Honestly, never put that together,” the 63-year-old actor shared.
“Never even occurred to me.”
Harrelson’s character, Haymitch Abernathy, was District 12’s second Hunger Games victor after winning the 50th Hunger Games.
His story is set to be told in the prequel book and following film Sunrise on the Reaping.
The book, by best-selling author and the mind behind the million-dollar series Suzanne Collins, will be released on March 18th of this year, and the film will be released in 2026.
