Alien: Romulus 2 is just around the corner!

David Jonsson has confirmed that the much-anticipated Alien: Romulus sequel is gearing up to start filming soon.

The actor, who played android Andy in the first film, hinted that production could kick off before the end of the year.

Jonsson recently addressed speculation around the sequel’s production timeline during a chat on Post Cred Pod, where he was asked if filming would begin by the end of the year.

He answered, “I can’t share [very much], but I will say I don’t think you’re far off - your sources have something to them.”

Director Fede Álvarez also gave an update last month, saying on the Marea Nocturna podcast (via Fangoria) that pre-production is already underway and they’re aiming to start shooting this autumn.

Alien: Romulus arrived in cinemas in August 2024.

Set between Ridley Scott’s Alien (1979) and James Cameron’s Aliens (1986), it followed a group of young scavengers who run into a deadly Xenomorph on an abandoned space station.

Cailee Spaeny starred as Marie Raines “Rain” Carradine, with Jonsson as her android brother Andy.

The film became a surprise box office hit, pulling in around $350.9 million worldwide. Following that success, Álvarez confirmed he wanted to continue the story.

What can fans expect from Alien Romulus 2?

Earlier this year, Álvarez also gave fans a hint about what to expect from the sequel. Speaking to Empire, he said the new film will take the franchise “into uncharted waters.”

He said, “Rodo [Sayagues, co-writer] and I are working on that right now. We’re excited about where it can go. We’ve almost checked all of the boxes of things that I want to see [in Romulus], and brought back a lot of the things I hadn’t seen in a while.

“Wherever we go now, we can go into uncharted waters.”

He also confirmed the story will continue to follow the survivors of the first film - Cailee Spaeny’s Rain Carradine and her android brother Andy - who were last seen entering cryo-sleep en route to the planet Yvaga III.

He added, “I think it’ll be so exciting to go with characters you know from this movie, to a place in the Alien franchise that we’ve never been before, and to discover things that you’ve never seen before.”
