Chris Evans set to return to MCU alongside Robert Downey Jr in Avengers Doomsday

Chris Evans is returning to the MCU.

Marvel Studios’ OG Captain America actor is making another comeback.

Chris Evans is returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe alongside his co-star Robert Downey Jr., as per an exclusive report shared by The Wrap.

The actor exited the franchise as Steve Rogers, aka Captain America, in Avengers: Endgame; however, he reprised his Fantastic Four role in 2024’s Deadpool & Wolverine.

Now, it sounds like he’s got the taste for it again, as he’s set to star in Avengers: Doomsday.

Evans’ MCU return details are locked and sealed, as per The Wrap.

It’s currently unclear if the Winter Soldier star will be returning to reprise his role as Captain America, a variant of his iconic character, or somebody completely different altogether.

Downey Jr., for example, is set to change things up as he takes on the role of famous Marvel villain Doctor Doom, as opposed to Tony Stark aka Iron Man.

The outlet says Evans “will be involved in some capacity, but the extent and exact nature of his role is unknown,” as the franchise’s current multiverse saga makes anything possible.

Nothing’s off the table anymore, as fans are well aware of by now.

Evans could potentially be playing a villain from another universe this time around; even an evil Captain America could be possible.

The Avengers sequel, which will be released on May 1, 2026, is expected to be a massive project.

The Russo Brothers, who helmed Infinity War and Endgame, just to name a couple, are returning to direct Doomsday, which fans were happy about when announced.

As Marvel Studios makes progress with the development of the movie, it’s expected that more casting announcements and hints of plot details will be shared along the way.
