Director Tim Burton, known for his quirky style and movies like Corpse Bride, Beetlejuice, and Sleepy Hollow, has revealed which movies he believes don’t require a sequel.
In a recent Q&A via IndieWire during the Marrakech Festival, he quickly dismissed the idea of the chance of a sequel to 1990s Edward Scissorhands, which starred both Johnny Depp and Winona Ryder as the main stars.
The movie was a massive hit, with fans making a staggering $86 million at the box office on a $20 million budget, ultimately making it a success.
“There are certain films I don’t want to make a sequel to,” Burton said.
“I didn’t want to make a sequel to that because it felt like a one-off thing.”
“I didn’t want to have a sequel for The Nightmare Before Christmas because it also felt like a one-off thing.”
“Certain things are best left on their own, and that, for me, is one of them.”
It features a young Johnny Depp as Edward, who was invented by a scientist who passed away, leaving Edward with a freakish appearance,
Which includes scissor blades for fingers, which makes him an outcast in the neighbourhood.
When questioned whether he would work with Johnny Depp again, he believes that something will definitely happen in the future.
“Well, I’m sure there will be.”
“I never feel like, oh, I’m going to use this and that actor.”
“It usually has to be based on the project I’m working on.”
“That’s what film is all about. It’s collaboration and bouncing ideas off the people around you.”
Although he has not directed a movie with Depp since 2012’s Dark Shadows, this is exciting news for Depp fans as most would love to see the A-Lister come back to the big screen with Burton behind the influence.
