Elizabeth Olsen says Marvel ‘didn’t know what to do’ with Scarlet Witch as fans hope for return

PublishedLast updated

After the shock and success of Avengers: Endgame, the Scarlet Witch has been taking the MCU by storm.

When Elizabeth Olsen first embraced the witch’s complexities in the 2015 Avengers sequel, Avengers: Age of Ultron, she captured the hearts of many fans.

Olsen returned as the tragic witch in Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, before becoming the star of her own show in 2021 with “WandaVision.”

The show was highly praised for its depth and exploration of the character, winning multiple awards and kicking off the MCU after the events of Endgame.

However, the character seemed to be explored in a different tone for the 2022 film Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, becoming a ruthless antagonist.

Olsen had previously discussed the stark changes in her character’s story and progress, believing that both roles in WandaVision and Multiverse of Madness were too abruptly different.

However, Olsen recently opened up about returning to the MCU and the direction she believes is left for the Scarlet Witch.

“It’s a character that I love going back to when there’s a way to use her well, and I think I have been lucky that when I started I was used well,” Olsen said.

“I think people didn’t know what to do with me for a second there… if there’s a good way to use her I’m always happy to come back,” she added.

Although nothing has been confirmed for the return of the Scarlet Witch, a spin-off series of “WandaVision” is releasing later this month.
