Jennifer Lawrence never understood her 2017 horror movie despite sleeping with its director

X-Men star Jennifer Lawrence once admitted that she had no idea what her 2017 horror movie was truly about despite dating its director, Darren Aronofsky.

In fact, she was relatively confused in terms of understanding its plot.

However, the movie is intended to be confusing, so she isn’t the only one.

While appearing on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, the host asked the No Hard Feelings actress: “On a scale of 1 to totally confused, how much did you understand your film Mother!?”

“I’m going to be honest,” she began to respond.

“Well, I was sleeping with the director, so I had notes,” she added.

“So … 5? Or a 4.”

“But if anybody needs any tips on understanding their films, you know what to do!” she continued jokingly.

The movie itself is a psychological horror created and directed by Aronofsky.

It revolves around Lawrence’s character, Mother, who lives with her older husband, Him, played by Monsters actor Javier Bardem.

When asked if “you know what to do” means “f-k the director,” Lawrence said, “Yeah!”

While talking with Happy Gilmore star Adam Sandler in 2017 for Variety’s Actors on Actors, Lawrence opened up about her time dating Aronofsky.

“Normally, I promote a movie, ask people to go see it, and then it’s just out of your hands,” she started to explain.

“I normally just kind of let it go.”

“Dating the director was different,” she admitted.

“We’d be on the tour together, I’d come back to the hotel, and the last thing I want to talk about or think about is a movie.”

“He comes back from the tour, and that’s all he wants to talk about and I get it, it’s his baby. He wrote it. He conceived it. He directed it.”

“I was doing double duty trying to be a supportive partner, while also being like, ‘Can I please, for the love of God, not think about Mother! for one second?'”

“I finally was just like, ‘It’s not healthy, neither of us are doing it’ because if I read it, I start getting defensive. Especially because it’s my man.”
