Jennifer Lopez says it feels ‘lonely, unfamiliar, and scary’ after divorce from Ben Affleck

"It feels sad. It feels desperate."

Jennifer Lopez has broken the silence on her recent divorce from Ben Affleck.

The multi-talented singer recently sat down with comedian Nikki Glaser for an intimate conversation with Interview magazine, where she candidly discussed her split, describing the experience as “lonely, unfamiliar, and scary.”

The couple, who rekindled their romance in 2021 and tied the knot in a lavish ceremony, surprised fans when they announced their separation just after two years following months of rumour.

Now, at 55, Lopez is reflecting on what it means to be single again.

She candidly said, “It feels lonely, unfamiliar, scary. It feels sad.”

“It feels desperate.”

“But when you sit in those feelings and go, ‘These things are not going to kill me,’ it’s like actually, I am capable of joy and happiness all by myself. Being in a relationship doesn’t define me.”

She continued, “I can’t be looking for happiness in other people. I have to have happiness within myself.”

“I used to say I’m a happy person, but was still looking for something for somebody else to fill, and it’s just like, ‘No, I’m actually good.'”

Though the breakup was difficult, Lopez still admits to being a romantic at heart.

She added, “I love being in relationships and want to grow old with somebody. But we think, ‘I have to have that to be whole and happy.’ And you don’t.”

Lopez, for the first time in her adult life, revealed that she’s “not looking for anybody” — a realization that took her 30 years and a few failed marriages to fully embrace.

Before her marriage to Affleck, Lopez had walked down the aisle with Ojani Noa, Cris Judd, and Marc Anthony.

Lopez also referred to herself as a “dumb bi*ch” and a “mother f**ker” for always wanting a partner but acknowledged that her relationship with herself is “the most important thing.”

Lopez further shared how their split affected her emotionally.

She cancelled her world tour to focus on her family, choosing to prioritize her personal healing over professional commitments.

She added, “I can’t wait to get back out there. I have the most understanding and loving fans in the world. Some fan bases can be spicy. Mine are just a bunch of lovers.”

“I was so devastated to let anybody down, but I just needed to be with my kids and myself and really dig down deep into things that were happening in my life.”

On the other hand, Ben Affleck is also “grappling with a lot of guilt” following his split from the pop singer.

The end of their marriage has left him experiencing mostly “down moments.”
