Matt Reeves confirms discussions about Robert Pattinson’s Batman joining James Gunn’s DC Universe

Matt Reeves has said Robert Pattinson’s Batman could become part of James Gunn’s DC universe, but only if it “makes sense.”

A few weeks after DC Studios co-chief James Gunn mentioned he had “contemplated” bringing Robert Pattinson’s Batman into the DCU, Reeves shared an update on The Batman sequel.

Speaking with Happy Sad Confused’s Josh Horowitz, The Batman director said the focus remains on the next chapter of his Crime Saga, which is set to hit theatres in October 2027.

“It really comes down to whether or not it makes sense,” Reeves said when asked about potentially bringing Pattinson and the Epic Crime Saga into Gunn’s DCU. 

He added, “What’s been great is there is a story that I wanted to tell we’re calling the Epic Crime Saga, which is the thrust of what we want to do.

“It’s been important to me to be able to play that out.”

He continued, “James and Peter have been really, really great about that, they’re letting us do that.”

“What the future brings, I can’t really tell you,” he said.

“I have no idea right now, except that my head is down, now, about getting The Batman Part 2 shooting and to make it something really, really special, which, of course, is the most important thing.”

The Batman 2 recently pushed its release date to October 2027 due to scripting issues.

After the announcement, many DC fans speculated that the delay might be due to Pattinson’s Batman being integrated into the DC Universe.

However, there’s been no official confirmation, just as no actor has been publicly announced as the DCU’s Batman as of writing.
