After years of delays, Marvel Studios’ reboot of Blade and the potential Deadpool 4 have both hit pause once again.
This follows recent rumours that the studio could be aiming to start production on the Mahershala Ali-led project in 2026.
According to Variety, Marvel is in no hurry to move forward with either project as the studio continues to reassess its release strategy.
Sources told the outlet this slowdown may reflect Marvel’s new focus on reducing the number of superhero titles hitting screens, especially following backlash over recent overcrowded phases of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The studio now seems more focused on Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the next two Avengers films, and rebooting the X-Men.
Development status of the Blade reboot
The Mahershala Ali-led Blade has already faced years of setbacks since being announced back in 2019. Despite rumours of a possible 2026 production start, the project still doesn’t have a confirmed director or release date.
It’s been through several creative overhauls, with directors Bassam Tariq and Yann Demange both exiting at different points.
A rotating roster of writers, including Stacy Osei-Kuffour, Beau DeMayo, Michael Starrbury, and, most recently, Eric Pearson, has also come and gone.
At this stage, it’s unclear if previously announced cast members like Mia Goth and Milan Ray are still attached, after the departures of Aaron Pierre and Delroy Lindo.
Has Deadpool 4 been announced yet?
Meanwhile, the future of Deadpool also remains hazy.
Following the massive success of Deadpool & Wolverine, which saw Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman return to their iconic roles, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige confirmed that ongoing talks have been held about what’s next for the pair in the MCU.
But despite fan enthusiasm, Deadpool 4 has yet to move into official development.
