Marvel Cinematic Universe’s long-promised Blade movie seems to be gaining momentum, with new information claiming that the project has finally found somebody to direct it.
According to World of Reel, Jeymes Samuel is in talks with Marvel Studios for the director role.
Samuel, also known as The Bullitts, made his feature film directorial debut in 2021 with the Netflix Western flick, The Harder They Fall.
The film earned him a BAFTA Award for Outstanding Debut by a British Director.
While no official confirmation has been made yet, the report states that Samuel made a strong impression on Marvel, which could result in a collaboration.
It has been reported that despite rumours, Marvel Studios never intended to cancel the Blade movie.
It remains a “major priority” for both Marvel Studios and Kevin Feige.
Before the recent talks involving Jeymes Samuel, Bassam Tariq was originally set to direct the Blade reboot.
However, Tariq left the project in 2022, and his replacement, Yann Demange, also stepped away from the reboot.
Written by Stacy Osei-Kuffour, the film will officially introduce Blade into the MCU.
Blade reboot, originally set in the 1920s, will now take place in modern times, though not much is known about the plot yet.
It will officially introduce Eric Brooks, the famous vampire hunter, into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Mahershala Ali will take on the role of Blade, stepping into the shoes of Wesley Snipes, who played the character in the original films from 1998 to 2004 – reprising his role in 2024’s Deadpool & Wolverine.
Other confirmed cast members include Mia Goth, Aaron Pierre, and Delroy Lindo, though their roles haven’t been disclosed.
Marvel studios is reportedly eyeing a November 1, 2024 date to commence filming.
