New Chronicles of Narnia movie receives promising update

Greta Gerwig’s The Chronicles of Narnia reboot for Netflix is now officially moving forward.

The long-awaited adaptation of The Magician’s Nephew is expected to begin filming this September in London.

This is the first major update since Netflix secured the rights to C.S. Lewis’ beloved fantasy series nearly seven years ago.

Earlier this year, it was announced that the first of Greta Gerwig’s two Narnia movies will hit IMAX theatres on Thanksgiving Day 2026, then head to Netflix on Christmas Day.

The film serves as a prequel, focusing on how Aslan the lion created Narnia, taking place a thousand years before The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.

Gerwig, who is both directing and writing the screenplay, has assembled a high-profile cast, including Sex Education‘s Emma Mackey as the White Witch, Daniel Craig, Carey Mulligan, and Meryl Streep.

Streep has been rumoured as the voice of Aslan.

This project sees Gerwig reunite with both Mackey and Streep, following their collaborations on Barbie and Little Women, respectively.

The film is being produced by Amy Pascal, Mark Gordon, and Vincent Sieber.

As reported by NarniaWeb, the production is currently in the final stages of pre-production.

Several crew members, including electricians, lighting technicians, and VFX artists, have already started work on the project.

Netflix’s new take on the franchise follows the success of the original film trilogy, which brought in nearly $1.6 billion at the global box office.

The series began in 2005 with The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe, followed by Prince Caspian in 2008 and The Voyage of the Dawn Treader in 2010.

The original cast featured the likes of Georgie Henley, Skandar Keynes, William Moseley, Anna Popplewell, and Tilda Swinton, with Liam Neeson voicing Aslan.
