Amazon’s God of War TV series does not have a premiere date yet, but it has already been greenlit for two seasons, according to showrunner Ronald D. Moore.
Moore stepped in to lead the project after former showrunner Rafe Judkins and executive producers Hawk Ostby and Mark Fergus left.
Moore, the veteran writer and producer behind Battlestar Galactica and Outlander, revealed on The Sackhoff Show with Katee Sackhoff that he is officially leading the adaptation of Sony’s blockbuster video game.
He said, “Right now I’m working on the adaptation of this video game called God of War, that Amazon has ordered two seasons of and they asked me to come in.”
“I’m literally in the writers’ room, and that’s my new thing.”
Moore admitted that he is far from a gamer.
He has not really touched video games since the arcade days back in the ‘80s, so this whole world is pretty unfamiliar to him.
However, he says he gave God of War a shot but struggled with the fast-paced action and Kratos taking on all those mythical creatures… it was just a bit much to jump into.
“The controllers now… ‘Press R1’, which one’s ‘R1’, oh I’m dead!” he joked.
“I can’t quite get a hold of that.”
His resume spans Star Trek: The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, and For All Mankind, with a track record of shows that not only launch well but run for multiple seasons.
Moore is stepping in after the initial creative team of Rafe Judkins (The Wheel of Time), Mark Fergus, and Hawk Ostby left the project in 2024.
While Fergus and Ostby, known for Children of Men and Iron Man, helped shape the early stages, Moore is now shaping Kratos’ journey for the screen.
Set during the Norse era of the games, God of War will follow Kratos and his son Atreus as they navigate grief, gods, and monsters.
The series was greenlit in 2022 through a collaboration between Amazon, Sony Pictures Television, and PlayStation Productions.
Other details on the project remain scarce, with no cast announced yet.
