Andrew Garfield admits fans will never ‘trust’ him as he teases potential Spider-Man return

ByShashwat

Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man has been a hot topic ever since his beloved return in Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Fans have been clamouring for more of his Peter Parker, speculating whether he might show up in the MCU’s Spider-Man 4, which is slated to begin filming this year. But the actor has now addressed the rumours, sharing a candid (and slightly cheeky) response to the mounting buzz.

In a new interview with GQ, Garfield tackled reports that he had already signed on to reprise his web-slinging role alongside Tom Holland in Spider-Man 4.

He denied the rumours outright but acknowledged the scepticism surrounding his words after his masterful denials in the lead-up to No Way Home. “I’m gonna disappoint you.”

“Yeah, no.”

“I know no one’s gonna trust anything I say from now on,” Garfield said.

He continued, hinting at what it might take for him to suit up again: “If it felt in line with my soul and was gonna be fun.”

“Maybe I’m gonna have like five kids at some point, and I’m gonna need to start saving up for the school tuition or something.”

Garfield’s mention of the infamous No Way Home secrecy saga isn’t surprising.

Leading up to the 2021 film, he was repeatedly asked if he’d appear in the multiversal adventure, and each time, he swore up and down that he wasn’t involved.

Fans, of course, discovered otherwise when Garfield’s Spider-Man swung onto the big screen alongside Tobey Maguire and Tom Holland, delivering one of the most memorable cinematic surprises in recent years.

Since his return, Garfield’s Spider-Man has gained a resurgence in popularity, with fans championing his performance as one of the best aspects of No Way Home.

His arc, which revisited his grief over Gwen Stacy and allowed him to find redemption by saving MJ, struck an emotional chord with audiences.

It reignited campaigns for a third instalment in The Amazing Spider-Man franchise and fueled endless theories about his involvement in future Marvel projects.

While Garfield has denied signing on for Spider-Man 4, fans are taking his words with a grain of salt.

With filming scheduled to start later this year and a release date set for July 24, 2026, the fourth instalment in Tom Holland’s Spider-Man saga will be directed by Destin Daniel Cretton (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings).

Plot details are scarce, but with the multiverse now a firmly established concept, the possibility of Garfield and Maguire returning in some capacity isn’t entirely off the table.

Garfield has always been open about what would entice him to return as Spider-Man.

In past interviews, he’s said it would take “a great idea” and something “in line with his soul.”

While Marvel’s plans for Spider-Man 4 might not include him just yet, the actor hasn’t completely ruled out the idea of revisiting his version of Peter Parker if the stars align.
