Channing Tatum’s Gambit debuted in this year’s Deadpool and Wolverine, one of the year’s biggest films.

Although nothing for certain has been said about the character, the mutant was loved by fans in the action comedy film.

Ryan Reynolds, the executive producer, writer and actor for Deadpool and Wolverine, shared that Marvel is “obsessed” with Tatum’s performance as the Cajun X-Men member.

“I honestly don’t know what goes on behind closed doors in the bookkeeping sessions at Marvel, but I do know that they’re obsessed with him in that role.”

Reynolds compares it to his own scenario as Deadpool, where he first appeared as the character in the 2009 film X-Men Origins: Wolverine, where his character wasn’t as developed or exciting as it is now.

“It’s kind of like the same situation I went through. Once you show that it works well, that’s really what they need. Sometimes they just need to see it in action.”

Tatum’s Gambit was supposed to have a film some years ago with 20th Century Fox studios, who at the time also owned Blade and Daredevil until being acquired by Disney.

However, now being taken over by Disney, the development of a Gambit film completely fell through.

Yet Reynolds and director Shawn Levy brought Tatum back for the role to showcase the potential this character could have in Deadpool and Wolverine.

Reynolds has made it clear that he wants Tatum to explore this character and add a new perspective to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. “I hope so.”

However, as excited as Reynolds is, some fans don’t share the same views.

“Marvel and Disney are not in tune with fans at all. Tatum’s Gambit is not built for being outside Deadpool and Wolverine because his version is a parody.”

“Tatum was hilarious with the over the top accent, but it would get annoying for a main character in a movie. They would have to tone that down.”
